Perfect 24 hours Saalfelden Leogang

We start this joyful Friday with a breakfast in the unconventional Hotel Mama Thresl. Under the motto “urban soul meets the alps” and a young vibe, there is always something going on here – perfect for getting fully awake! The interior is special, whole tree trunks stick out in the sky, big slabs of rock as bar tables and branches as lamps. A via ferrata that leads along the facade. Those who feel fit enough should join Hotel Manager Lisa-Maria Roos for an hour of Body Pump. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, trendy DJs and DJanes create an exuberant atmosphere and stimulate you to dance with trendy beats.

Then go to the bike. If you are on a fully equipped bike for the first time or if you want to enjoy super technical training, you will first make a detour to the bike park on the way to the cable car!

We lift the bikes on the gondola and go up to the Asitz. At the top, the Hendl Fischerei welcomes us – a legendary institution in Saalfelden-Leogang! For lunch there is Huwi’s world-famous grill chicken, spicy ribs and delicious Steckerlfisch. Huwi and his wife Renate are the owner of Mama Thresl (by the way, the name comes from Renates Mama, a strong woman who gave birth to 11 children and never left the place) and the idyllic Hideaway Priesteregg. Those who want to spend an authentic, quiet and luxurious time should book one of the 16 chalets in the Priesteregg. With own sauna and hot tub. The yoga platforms in the middle of nature make every yogi heart beat faster.

An absolute highlight is that Mama Thresl’s guests can take their breakfast up in the Hendl Fischerei up to 10.00 clock instead of in the hotel.

For mountain bikers, turn right into the forest. But who ever is up, we definitely recommend a short hike to Geierkogel. Passing the beautifully landscaped lake with mountain panorama, you go up to the Asitzkopf with a very steep hike. From there you have a unique view! There is often a lot going on, so we move on to the Geierkogel. Here you will find more peace and we lie down in the grass and enjoy this natural breathtaking scenery with a direct view of the Kitzsteinhorn in the distance (with its 3,203 meters altitude, one of the highest ski resorts in Salzburger Land). Then we turn around and continue our mountain bike track. For sunsets lovers, it is advisable to take the gondola to the middle station of the cable car: here you will find the Stille Wasser that are part of the Sinne Erlebnispark. When the sun goes down, there is a wonderful scenery: we were allowed to enjoy the full moon in front of stationary gondolas on one side and a paradisiacal red-colored sunset on the other side. As soon as the sun’s rays have disappeared, it’s getting cold and we walk down to Holzhotel Forsthofalm with headlights.

The Holzhotel Forsthofalm attaches great importance to sustainability and combines that with relaxation and enjoyment: our absolute highlights here are the glamorous bar and the great spa area with a direct view of a breathtaking mountain backdrop. After walking down in the dark, we feel a bit cold and decide for sauna. We definately recommend to bring more time, in order to enjoy one of the great treatments that Claudia – the owner of the hotel – designed based on different flavors. The oils are made by hand for this purpose. We end this full day with a strong glass of red wine and the smell of freshly baked bread. What a perfect day!

Some more personal insidertips of us: Klettersteig in Leogang, Persailhorn, with the racing bike to Pillersee and  Sinnlehenalm.

Perfect for the sunset. When the last rays of sunshine are gone, it gets cold in the fall, so take jacket with you.
Bikepark LeogangHütten 39, 5771 Leogang, Österreich

Everyone will want MORE: absolute beginners or professionals! The Beginner Park is great when you sit on a Fully for the first time. Sabine Enzinger from the bike school is super warmhearted and a great teacher.
SinnlehenalmHirnreit 8, Leogang, Österreich

The Sinnlehenalm has been warmly recommended to us from so many sides that we even described it here as a MUST for a visit to Saalfelden-Leogang!
Mama ThreslSonnberg 252, 5771 Leogang, Österreich

Mama Thresl is an institution! The Hendl fishing is also included and so it is not surprising that in the hotel always something lost. The staff are young and the vibe is hip! For dinner there is a selected menu, the charcoal grilled entrecote was a dream! (the tomato dip is delicious too!)
Holzhotel ForsthofalmHütten 37, 5771 Leogang, Österreich

The Holzhotel Forsthofalm is great for wellness and cuisine! On the roof terrace of the SPA area you have an impressive view of the mountains! All treatments are based on a flavor concept, which can set different priorities. We taste the fragrances and feel that the SOUL component fits perfectly with us.
PriestereggSonnberg 22 5771 Leogang, Österreich

Wonderful chalets located on a high plateau in front of the Leogang mountains, a special experience for mountain lovers. Nice old wood, own sauna and hot pot and very delicious food in Huwi's Alm.
Klettersteig LeogangPassauer Hütte, Frohnwies, Land Salzburg, Österreich

The Leogang South via ferrata is a challenging modern sports via ferrata in very steep terrain, magnificent views of the Glockner group.
Persail HornPersailhorn, Gemeinde Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, Österreich

The well-secured via ferrata (including exposed ladders and iron braces on exposed walls) starts above the Peter Wiechentaler hut on the south side of the Persailhorn.
PillerseePillersee, Gemeinde, Österreich

Great road bike tour about Saalfelden - Lofer - natural lake Pillersee - Leogang - Saalfelden. The Pillersee is the emerald-heart of the valley. Refreshingly cold and beautiful with numerous pedal boats.
"Hang the bikes on the gondola and go all the way up to 1851m, admire the freeride mountain bikers on the Hangman and then ride the scenic path with a view of the Kitzsteinhorn mountain biking at its best!"

My thoughts about Saalfelden Leogang

Chris | NECTAR & PULSE: Have you ever gotten used to the mountains or will it always be something special for you here in Saalfelden-Leogang?

Marlene: It is definitely always special, especially the imposing view of the Leogang mountains! Each peak has its own character and shows each day from another side. The light and the weather is different, sometimes the fog is rising or you can observe picturesque sunsets. Every day is unique.

Chris: What I love up here in the mountains are the silence and the remoteness. What do you mostly enjoy here?

Marlene: Yes, the silence, but also the attention for the sounds of the wind, the brooks and the whole scenery. It is a coming and going of the thoughts, the attention is sometimes directed to the outside like scents, sounds and the panorama and then again to the inside. I especially enjoy that.

Chris: What is an absolute must do here in Saalfelden-Leogang?

Marlene: Bikepark, Klettersteig in Leogang, Persailhorn.

Chris: What are your favorite sports and where?

Marlene:
1. A little morning run to the Peter-Wiechenthaler Hütte
2. Klettersteig – Leogang
3. Racing bike tour Saalfelden – Lofer – Pillersee – Leogang – Saalfelden
4. MTB Panoramatour

Chris: Where is your personal “energy place“?

Marlene: Geierkogel

Take a vacation into My life

What is your personal story?
“Back home!” The definitive best decision in my life. I was gone for 13 years. It meant gaining experience, but then the feeling of moving back to my homeland – the Pinzgau – seized me. Here we certainly have an extremely high quality of life, which really offers everything. From the typical alpine hut style to the urban flair. Whether summer or winter, the possibilities are great. From the sunrise tour to the Sundowner Downhill descent. The people are multicultural and through tourism there is always variety. As a mountain lover I have found the perfect place to realize myself. Sporty and professional, the region offers me an ideal base to move mountains.

What inspires you?
After work, go up a mountain and enjoy the sunset, or start the day with a sporty highlight. I then really notice how the endorphins push me to new ideas and strategies.

Your lifestyle in 5 words

Canada, Iceland, Spitsbergen, Oman, Tajikistan (probably the most intense journey so far).

Your life philosophy?
Short and easy: Move Mountains.

Travel is:
To go on an adventure hunt! Meet new people. To reach its limits.
